School Closure.  This is obviously an anxious time for all and it is important to look after the emotional health and well being of your children.

Please find a link below to the elsa-support website where you will find lots of FREE resources to support your children.  If you are unable to access then contact me via school and I will do my best to get some of the resources to you. As well as the ELSA links I will be uploading some 'mindfulness' videos so look out for them on our YouTube channel.

Stay safe, I look forward to seeing you all soon. Mrs McElhone

"Singing is good for the soul!!!"

You know at English Martyrs' we love a bit of singing and it is a brilliant way to help with our mental health and wellbeing.

Please find the link below to Sing Up which is a fantastic resource we use at school and they have made it available for use at home

Funding has been made available across Derby and Derbyshire to support children and Young People's mental health.

There are a range of ways the NHS can support emotional health and wellbeing.

If you have a child or young person who is experiencing depression, low mood, stress, anxiety or needs wider emotional support due to the impact of Covid-19 then it is important as parents and carers that you stay calm and access the help which is available

If you need help you can call 0300 790 0596 between the hours of 9am and midnight, seven days a week visit: where specialist mental health professionals will be there to help.

To find local information about support you can access yourself, this is available via the Derby and Derbyshire Emotional health and Well Being Website, follow the link below:

Here at English Martyrs', we take an holistic approach to children's health and wellbeing.

As well as the day-to-day emotional support your child receives in their class, we are lucky to be able to offer extra help and support, should your child need it.

This includes having a trained ELSA - Emotional Literacy Support Assistant - who can offer one-to-one support. "ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists who apply psychological knowledge of children’s social and emotional development to particular areas of need." (

There is also our English Martyrs' Star Group, which runs twice a week for one term at a time. This is an opportunity for children to be part of a small group of pupils and receive a considerable amount of adult help to develop their learning skills, friendship strategies, self- esteem and confidence and other skills which will support them as they move up the school. Please click on the link below to download the information leaflet and find out more information about our Nurture Group: Welcome to our Nurture Group Leaflet

When the need arrises, we are also able to offer children bereavement support. This is facilitated by trained staff who encourage the children to support one another. Bereavement isn't just death - it may be significant changes to their family such as illnesses, separation and other life changing events in their life.
